100 words flash fiction

I stared at the photo on the wedding announcement. Her smile competed with her eyes for my attention as some other guy, undeserving, stood beside her.

I pulled her last letter to me from the desk. It hadn’t been touched in three years. I pretended I could smell her as I removed the card.

“This is all I have to give you.”

A God-damned card. All she could give me after all that time. I dropped the envelope onto the desk. Unexpectedly, a metallic “clang” came from what I thought was an empty envelope.

Ripping it open, I discovered a key. The key to her hotel room on the evening she had the card delivered.
