On Reading

I’ve done less writing than usual of late, and concentrated on reading more. I’ll be honest, reading was becoming a bit of a chore. My stepdaughter bought the entire “Game of Thrones” series, and I’ve been slogging through it. Turns out, WHAT I was reading was the chore, not HOW MUCH I was reading. I finished one of the “Thrones” books last night and picked up “Lolita” by Nabakov. Let it suffice to say that I’m in love with reading all over again.

May I recommend “Manhattan Nocturne” by Colin Harrison (before the movie comes out and they screw it up)

    • I’ll give it a look, seems interesting enough. There’s a pretty tall pile in the “to read” basket on my bed stand right now, though. “Lolita”,
“Pale Fire”, “Primary Colors”, “The Complete H.P. Lovecraft Collection”, “The Far Pavilions”, “The Flowering Earth”, “The Appeal”…and that horrendous George R R Martin series that seems to go on forever.

Nope. No reading in bed. I put them on a shelf in the office, select one and read it like it’s the only book I have until I either choke and leave it in the grocery cart or I savor it to satisfaction. Those are the only ones I’ll recommend. The film won’t be a total loss. Adrian Brody is starring.
